More than 400 guests gathered at the Palace Convention Centre in Montreal on May 5th for an evening that managed to be, simultaneously, a glamorous runway show and an act of genuine solidarity.
The 5th Greek Fashion Show of the Lyceum of Greek Women of Montreal – organised in support of the DOvEEgene Project, led by Dr. Lucy Gilbert at McGill University, an initiative working toward early detection of ovarian and endometrial cancer – brought together two Greek designers, five cancer survivors who walked the runway, and a room full of people willing to open their hearts and their wallets for research that could save women’s lives. Yiorgos Koulasidis presented his Resort Wear 2026 collection, and Montreal-based designer Fotis Papageorgiou showed his Braham Collection, a modern, boho, unisex line that drew a particularly enthusiastic response from younger guests in the room. That particular combination doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when the right people care enough to make it happen, five years in a row.
The evening was driven, as it has been from the beginning, by journalist and author Justine Frangouli-Argyris – who lost her own sister to ovarian cancer at 42. That context changes what the runway means.

There’s a version of this story that treats Greek design as a niche interest, beautiful, sun-drenched, lovingly regional. We’ve never believed that. What we see in the designers we work with, and in the broader movement of Hellenic creativity finding audiences from London to New York to Montreal, is something with genuine cultural force. Greek designers aren’t borrowing from a global aesthetic playbook. They’re drawing from something older and more specific: a relationship with light, with the body, with the sea, with the idea that beauty and function were never opposites.
When that sensibility lands in a room of 400 people in Quebec, Canada and moves them, and opens their wallets for cancer research, that’s not a regional story anymore.
We’ve known Yiorgos for long enough to say, without any hesitation, that what he does on a runway is an honest expression of who he is. His Resort Wear 2026 collection, which he brought to Montreal, is rooted in the Greek islands, but not in any postcard way. The colors carry the specific quality of Aegean light in the late afternoon, when everything goes slightly gold and the shadows go long. The silhouettes have ease without being shapeless. There’s a generosity in how his clothes are designed to be worn, by real women, moving through real days, wanting to feel both beautiful and unbothered.
We stock his work because it makes sense to us the moment we see it. Not “this will sell” sense – though it does – but the deeper sense of recognising something that shares our values.
Seeing his name on that Montreal programme, alongside a cause as significant as DOvEEgene, felt exactly right to us. Because Yiorgos has always understood that what you make and why you make it are the same question.
Fashion can be used for almost anything, but charity runway shows can become more about glamour and prestige than about the cause they’re supposed to serve. The clothes get the attention, the cause becomes a footnote, and the evening feels more like a party with a donation box than something with real purpose. What made the Montreal evening different was the specificity of its intention.
Justine Frangouli-Argyris didn’t organise a glamorous evening that happened to raise money. She organised an act of solidarity, one where five cancer survivors walked the runway and the audience bid on the clothes they wore. That’s fashion actually doing something. The designers brought their craft; the cause brought its truth; and the two things held each other up.
Dr. Lucy Gilbert, whose team is in the final stages of developing the DOvEEgene “Pap-type” test, spoke that evening about the bureaucratic obstacles still standing between her research and the women who need it. That kind of honesty – at a fundraising event, on a gala night – is also rare. And it matters.
We think about what it means to run a store built around Greek design, for an international audience, at a moment when that design is increasingly finding the rooms it deserves to be in. Montreal. Paris. London.
It’s not about Greek fashion “having a moment.” Moments pass. What we see is something steadier: designers with deep roots and genuine points of view, finding that the world is finally curious enough to meet them where they are.
Yiorgos Koulasidis has been doing this work quietly and brilliantly for years. Evenings like the one in Montreal are how more people come to know it. We’re glad the world is paying attention.
